On this episode of The Siren Podcast, Jo sits down with Rep. Raskin to discuss one of the most brazen corruption schemes of the Trump era: his $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" fund designed exclusively to reward January 6th insurrectionists and election deniers with cash prizes.

Rep. Raskin breaks down how the fund came to be, which was rooted in a lawsuit Trump filed against the government over the release of his tax returns. The payouts have already started, with Trump ally and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn receiving $1.25 million and Trump sycophant Carter Page receiving the same amount. Even Jan. 6 rioter Ashley Babbitt’s family, received $5 million, after two federal investigations showed that police had acted responsibly during her case.

Meanwhile, the officers who were beaten, hospitalized, and forced out of their careers defending the Capitol on January 6th have received nothing except death threats from Donald Trump’s rabid supporters.

Jo and Rep. Raskin also get into the constitutional problems with the fund — of which there are more than a dozen. Notably, the 14th Amendment, passed after the Civil War, explicitly bars the government from compensating insurrectionists. The domestic emoluments clause prohibits the president from receiving additional payments from the federal government. And under the Constitution, it’s Congress (not the executive branch or Donald Trump) that appropriates money. And unsurprisingly, none of that stopped the Trump regime from moving forward anyway.

Raskin walks through the legislation he’s introduced to shut this whole blatantly illegal scheme down, by blocking any payments to January 6th participants, forbidding the settlement of claims made by the president or his family, and closing the door on the blanket immunity the DOJ quietly tucked into the agreement.

The Florida Supreme Court just ruled yesterday that Ron DeSantis’ and Florida Republicans’ illegal gerrymandered map, that removes up to 4 Democratic seats, was legal and could proceed. This comes as the Virginia Supreme Court recently ruled that the Democrats’ attempt at redistricting in response to Texas’ gerrymandering could not proceed. After the Supreme Court gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, Republican-led legislatures moved within hours to gerrymander districts across the South. Jo and Rep. Horsford discuss this lightning-fast reaction by southern states, including in Alabama, a state where Black residents make up over a third of the population. Voters are being carved out of representation they fought decades to win. In addition, the duo speaks about what this might mean for Horsford’s home state of Nevada, where Horsford says we must make the 2026 midterm elections “too big to rig.”

Then there’s the Faster Labor Contracts Act, which came to a vote this week in an historic victory for unions across the nation. The bill would stop corporations from using endless negotiation delays to block workers from ever signing a union contract. Rep. Horsford voted yes on the bill along with every every other Democrat. Comparatively, 192 Republicans voted no. As Rep. Horsford says, that tells you everything you need to know about whose side they’re on.

On the topic of Social Security and Medicare, Rep. Horsford represents a district where more than half of his constituents rely on Social Security as their only source of retirement income. An average check comes in at around $1,000 a month for rent, co-pays, groceries, and now skyrocketing gas prices. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Speaker Mike Johnson was recently caught on tape calling cuts to these programs in the form of “adjustments” and “fixes,” as the country still reels from Elon Musk’s disastrous cuts to Social Security from DOGE.

The Florida state legislature, dominated by a Republican supermajority, immediately acted on Trump’s wishes to gerrymander the state and deliver him more GOP seats, as he becomes more and more unpopular. The map was passed in just three days during a swift special session. “Signed, Sealed, and Delivered,” DeSantis wrote immediately after signing the gerrymander into law.

This new map, which is illegal, directly violates the Florida constitution. In 2010, voters passed Amendment 6, which plainly states that “Congressional districts may not be drawn to favor or disfavor a political party.” That is certainly what DeSantis did, who repeatedly went on Fox News to brag about his political motivations surrounding the new gerrymandered map. Members of DeSantis’ own staff have admitted to using partisan data to assist in the creation of this new map.

On this episode of The Siren Podcast, Jo sits down with Nikki Fried, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, Former Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, and Florida’s last statewide elected Democrat. Fried tells us that how DeSantis has appointed six out of seven members of the Florida Supreme Court, making an independent decision regarding the map more difficult.

Rep. Crow was one of the six members of Congress who issued a statement last November calling on members of the U.S. military to refuse illegal orders from Donald Trump. Senator Mark Kelly, one of the lawmakers in the video, said: “Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders.”

The video was met by brutal pushback from Trump and his allies, who apparently had a huge issue with lawmakers asking soldiers to uphold the law. Trump then ordered an investigation into the six lawmakers, including Rep. Crow, when former Fox News anchor Jeanine Pirro tried to indict the lawmakers. Additionally, the FBI began an investigation into Rep. Crow, to which he responded: “President Trump is using the FBI as a tool to intimidate and harass Members of Congress.”

Trump tweeted that the lawmakers should be tried in court for “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” What actually happened, was that the indictments all failed, and Pam Bondi was fired by Trump.

Rep. Crow continues to speak out today against Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth’s illegal actions in Iran, in the Caribbean, and elsewhere. There is practically no limit to the illegality, from war crime double-tap strikes, to unconstitutional wars, to illegally using insider information to place massive bets on U.S. military activity overseas, allowing Trump and his family to massively profit off their government positions.

Brian also describes what he’s hearing from Trump’s own supporters calling into his show. They oftentimes express regret and doubt over their decision to support Donald Trump in 2024, but still can’t bring themselves to admit that a vote for Kamala Harris would have been better.

The MAGA base is largely faltering, with most supporters abandoning the movement, but the true believers are still committed. And those people are getting louder and more desperate, lashing out in every direction as the failures pile up. From a cratering economy, broken tariff promises, 20 million people losing healthcare, and a “big beautiful bill” that handed a hundred billion dollars in tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of Americans, MAGA hasn’t quite gotten what they bargained for.

Jo and Brian also discuss the Epstein files, specifically Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s documented lies about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the three million files still withheld from the public by the DOJ, and the blatant lack of accountability and transparency regarding the abusers. Trump ran on releasing the truth. He’s now protecting the people inside it. Brian asks the question that MAGA refuses to answer: what exactly has this president accomplished for the people who voted for him?

With Trump polling at 20% among independents and approval ratings in the low thirties, there is surely a midterm reckoning on the horizon for Republicans. And we’re here for it.

In the end, Kamala Harris did win the Gen-Z vote, but not by much. Young people only voted for Harris/Walz by 4 points in 2024, down significantly from Biden/Harris’ 25 point victory in 2020.

We’ve already seen ICE’s massive budget used to terrorize Americans on the streets of their cities, resulting in the executions of two U.S. citizens and illegal detainment of countless people. Detainees have reported rampant, unsafe health conditions within ICE detention centers, with access to medical treatment often being denied by agents. Children are routinely blocked from visiting with their families, and relatives are completely left in the dark when a loved one is kidnapped by ICE, unable to be located.

Upwards of 3,000-4,000 ICE and DHS agents were sent to Minnesota earlier this year, more than double the amount of local law enforcement, who were severely understaffed in providing support and safety to the area due to ICE’s presence.

In addition, Senator Kim told us about ICE’s $130-140 million purchase of a warehouse in Roxbury, New Jersey, to store massive new amounts of ICE detainees. The warehouse, according to ICE’s own estimates, will cost taxpayers another $150 million to rehabilitate the facility, and an additional $200-300 million to operate the building.

Republicans passed this massive funding increase for ICE in the middle of the night for a reason, because they don’t want Americans to hear about it. Senator Kim is shining a light on their latest disastrous action, and we’re lucky to have him.

Congressman Jared Moskowitz joins us on this episode of The Siren Podcast to discuss this insane new story. On the topic of Bondi’s refusal to abide by the subpoena, Moskowitz tells us: “If she isn’t willing to show, I think they’re going to have no choice but to hold her in contempt. The White House then said a vote to release the files would be considered a hostile act against Trump.

Pam Bondi’s mishandling of the Epstein Files has been a downright disgrace, to say the least. Not only is it a stain on our justice system within the United States, but for the survivors who so bravely spoke out against their abusers and demanded action.

Still today, Pam Bondi has refused to answer why a binder full of supposed Epstein documents were handed out to MAGA Twitter influencers. Or why Trump called the files a “hoax.” Or why the names of co-conspirators were redacted. Or why Kash Patel declared that Epstein only trafficked his victims to himself. Or a million other incomprehensible statements and actions that must be explained.

In his latest effort to reward those who attempted to overthrow the United States and turn it into a dictatorship, Trump’s DOJ has now moved vacate the convictions of Proud Boys members who acted violently during the riot. Even though Trump pardoned the vast majority of Jan. 6 offenders (over 1,500) on the first day of his second term, some rioters only received commutations. This latest action by the DOJ would formally erase these remaining convictions, releasing four Proud Boys members who were charged with felonies and seditious conspiracy.

Under Donald Trump, the DOJ sounds and operates like Orwell’s Ministry of Truth from 1984, with DOJ officials saying these Jan. 6 convictions should be overturned "in the interests of justice." Trump isn’t just giving these insurrectionists a get-out-of-jail free card. He’s trying to vacate their sentences, or in other words, saying “your crime never happened.”

As Harry Dunn tells us on this episode of The Siren Podcast: “What this also does is creates an avenue, if you will, for these people to sue the government. Because if they vacate their convictions, what’s to stop them from saying, ‘Hey, I was prosecuted unfairly and maliciously.’ There’s nothing to stop that. And the biggest thing that I want people to understand about these lawsuits, not only is it crap and a slap in the face, it’s costing the American taxpayers money.”

Trump’s mental state has grown so concerning, that Congressman Jamie Raskin, alongside 65 House Democratic co-sponsors, introduced legislation to finally establish the independent Commission on Presidential Capacity called for in Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. As Raskin said, “Section 4 of the 25th Amendment empowers Congress to establish a permanent ‘body’ that, with the concurrence of the Vice President, can declare that the President is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

Today’s guest on The Siren Podcast, Amy McGrath, called this war “the worst strategic defeat in my lifetime.” McGrath knows a thing or two about the military and armed conflict. Over her 20 years of service in the military, Amy flew 89 combat missions, led Marines in some of the toughest places on earth, and served at the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill, working to shape America’s national security. McGrath was the first woman to fly a combat mission for the Marine Corps and the first woman to pilot the F/A-18 in a combat mission. She’s now running for the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in Kentucky.

Through an endless barrage of incomprehensible statements from Trump, Leavitt, Hegseth, and Rubio, which on any given day contain a novel’s worth of different statements explaining the state of the war and our goals, the effects of the war have actually hurt the United States.

We have not destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities (after Trump said last June that we had). Iran still has their enriched uranium. We have not achieved regime change. The “unconditional surrender” that Trump wanted has not occurred (in fact, we’ve gotten the opposite). Iran has not stopped funding terrorist groups across the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is still closed (as a result of Trump’s war), allowing Iran to hugely profit from this conflict, with Bloomberg estimating Iran to be earning hundreds of millions of dollars in extra income from oil sales.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, oil and gas prices domestically are skyrocketing. According to this morning’s Consumer Price Index report, Trump’s Iran war has caused inflation to triple in the last month alone, a record spike, with consumer sentiment falling to an all-time low as a result.

Every major news organization is now reporting that Pam Bondi is about to lose her job, with Semafor reporting Trump has informed Pam Bondi that her time as Attorney General is nearing an end.

And honestly? This decision is not a surprise, after Bondi’s disaster Congressional hearing in February, where she absolutely embarrassed Trump in front of the entire country with her wildly argumentative and unprofessional behavior.

Of course, Trump’s looming decision to fire Pam Bondi has roots in her handling of the Epstein files, with the fake Epstein Files binder “release” alongside MAGA influencers at the White House. After that moment, there was radio silence on the Epstein Files until Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie forced their release through Congress. These documents have led to some of the most defining scandals, negative media coverage, and crises during Trump’s entire time in politics, and for good reason.

When you combine this with Trump’s entire base absolutely hating Pam Bondi, and openly trashing her, this decision makes even more sense. In addition, there is now reporting that Tulsi Gabbard is on the chopping block as well. And of course, this all follows Kristi Noem’s firing last month after her disaster handling of ICE, DHS, and her own clownish Congressional hearing, which seems to be the red line for Trump.

Bondi, Noem, and Gabbard have all been loyal soldiers for Trump. They have attempted to shield him through pedophile allegations, executions of American citizens, and countless illegal and unconstitutional actions. But with Trump, it’s never enough. He will always turn on you, no matter how loyal you might have been, or how much ass kissing you did. Because the only person he cares about is himself, and his own survival.

Simply put, Bondi and Noem have caused Trump more problems than they have solved for him. And it’s because inherently, they are bumbling buffoons who have no business running parts of the federal government. A core staple of Trump’s second term, and authoritarian governments in general, is to pack executive leadership with unqualified people who in a normal country would never have been near the White House, allowing Trump and Stephen Miller to manipulate and control them easier.

This recent comment from Trump shines a light on this entire situation: “I hang out with losers because it makes be feel better. I hate guys that are very, very successful and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success.”

Jo and Ron also discuss Marco Rubio’s 180 degree switch on his previous support for liberal immigration policy, and the stunning abandonment of Trump by his previous MAGA supporters, now that more and more Americans are realizing they’ve been played. They also discuss Trump’s speech yesterday which aired during primetime TV, allowing many Americans who have insulated themselves from politics to finally see Trump’s apparent mental decline.

The domination of the right-wing media ecosystem has resulted in the GOP’s ability to shape the national conversation at a moment’s notice. The access lent to MAGA lawmakers has provided these new media operations with legitimacy given by legacy media, which we’ve all seen the ramifications of.

Without the growing media network on the left, such as Meidas Touch, Courier, Zeteo, The Bulwark, Don Lemon, Jim Acosta, Find Out Media, The Dangerous Ones, and yes, The Siren, Trump’s Epstein coverup would not have left such a massive impact. ICE’s occupation of Minneapolis and the hundreds of videos demonstrating their brutality, including the executions of Americans, would not have been viewed at the level they were, exposing the Trump regime’s authoritarianism. The list goes on and on.

Republicans are going all in on their efforts to pass the SAVE Act, a sweeping bill that would disenfranchise millions of voters, because they know they are going to get clobbered in the upcoming November midterms.
