Another school shooting. Another community shattered. And once again, the same American lie is repeated: that nothing can be done.
In this episode, we confront the reality of gun violence as a uniquely American epidemic and how trauma is routinely turned into spectacle instead of policy. We center the voices of survivors who are forced to relive the unimaginable, break down the political cowardice blocking even basic safety measures like safe storage, and examine the media ecosystem that rewards outrage over accountability, including the ongoing Erika Kirk media tour and what it reveals about grief, power, and profit in American politics. We end by contrasting that with a very different use of a public platform, looking at Lily Allen and what it means to turn personal pain into art, honesty, and cultural accountability rather than exploitation.
Note: Since we filmed this episode, the man detained over the weekend for the Brown University shooting was released because the evidence no longer supported holding him. As of December 16, 2026 at 12:20am ET a manhunt is still underway.
