On this episode of The Siren Podcast, Jo sits down with Congressman Joe Morelle, representing New York’s 25th District.
In response to right-wing gerrymandering across the nation, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has charged Rep. Joe Morelle with meeting with New York State leaders to counter Donald Trump’s ongoing voter suppression plans. Rep. Morelle, along with Leader Jeffries, announced a redistricting initiative called the New York Democracy Project.
In a statement, Leader Jeffries said the following about this incredibly important new initiative: “I have asked Ranking Member Morelle, the former Majority Leader in the New York State Assembly, to travel to Albany to meet with State leaders tomorrow on redrawing New York’s congressional districts in response to the Callais decision and the recent action in Florida. Across the nation, we will redraw and we will win.”
Jo and Rep. Morelle discuss the takeaway from these talks with New York state lawmakers, if New York’s map will be redrawn to combat right-wing gerrymandering, and what the Democrats counterattack plan is for 2026 and 2028.
