On this very special episode of The Siren Podcast, Jo sits down with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro for an in-depth, one-on-one interview.
This episode was filmed right after Governor Shapiro’s State of the State address on Tuesday, where he highlighted the need for an increased minimum wage to $15 an hour, (which currently sits at a shockingly low $7.25 an hour in PA), his fight to make sure kids don’t go hungry at school by funding Universal Free Breakfast, hire more mental health counselors for students, and the need to combat the dangers of AI.
Governor Shapiro was asked what he would say to Americans and Pennsylvanians who are worried about Trump’s recent threats to nationalize elections across the country, and take control of the polls. Here’s some of what he had to say:
“I got your back. When I was Attorney General in 2020, when Donald Trump lost the election here in Pennsylvania, he and his allies sued me 43 times to try and overturn the election. They went 0-43. I went 43-0, and we had a free and fair, safe and secure election.”
On the topic of ICE, Governor Shapiro also confirmed he is preparing measures to prevent Pennsylvania cities from becoming another Minneapolis, which he regards as a crucial responsibility for all elected leaders during this moment.
