Just a few hours ago, the Trump administration released the framework for their supposed “peace deal” with Iran, in order for the war to end. Namely, Trump wants the Strait of Hormuz reopened, free passage of American ships through the Strait, no more land mines, and shockingly- to halt the production of enriched uranium.
But there’s just one small problem with those items. We already had those things before Trump began this new war!
In March, JD Vance said, “Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. That is the goal of this operation and President Trump will see it through to completion.” But in the time period that Donald Trump ripped up the JCPOA in 2018, also known as the Obama Nuclear Deal, to today, Iran has accumulated 22,000 pounds (or 11 tons), of enriched uranium.
If you take the “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon” statement as MAGA’s reason for starting this war, then Trump by his own standard has completely failed.
Trump is asking Iran to stop this war and restore relations back to the way they were before the war began in the first place. No political concessions from Iran, no substantial victories on the ground, and no beneficial regime change. And all of this, so that Iran can develop more enriched uranium than ever before, while the U.S. bombs elementary schools full of children, spends billions upon billions of dollars, and 13 American soldiers give their lives.
