Conspiracy theories have exploded online in the aftermath of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, with many taking to social media to express that the shooting was staged.
Conversely, the MAGA response was to declare that the shooting was a justification for building the White House Ballroom. Dozens of prominent right-wing accounts all tweeted the same phrase within hours of the shooting, raising eyebrows on the left. Even if the ballroom was created, the WHCD would not be held there, given that the dinner is not a White House operated event.
Simultaneously, a Fox reporter was abruptly cut off live on air as she began to indicate the shooting had irregularities.
In the White House, Trump wasted no time posting pictures of the shooter and images of his cabinet gathered around the Oval Office (in a poor attempt to capture the famous Obama Bin Laden Raid image). MAGA media figures and lawmakers immediately declared the shooter a Democrat and that the left was inherently violent, even though the shooter had a “No Party Affiliation” registration in California.
