On this episode of The Siren Podcast, Jo sits down with Brian Shapiro, host of Pushing the Limits, one week after a reported assassination attempt on Donald Trump. In the days following a series of high-profile national media appearances, Brian has been doxxed, threatened, and targeted by a wave of violent messaging from the right.
As Brian told us on this episode: “I’ve had people putting up my address on social media. I’ve had personal emails of people saying they’re going to come to my place. I’m not even going to repeat some of the things that they said they were going to do.”
Brian also describes what he’s hearing from Trump’s own supporters calling into his show. They oftentimes express regret and doubt over their decision to support Donald Trump in 2024, but still can’t bring themselves to admit that a vote for Kamala Harris would have been better.
The MAGA base is largely faltering, with most supporters abandoning the movement, but the true believers are still committed. And those people are getting louder and more desperate, lashing out in every direction as the failures pile up. From a cratering economy, broken tariff promises, 20 million people losing healthcare, and a “big beautiful bill” that handed a hundred billion dollars in tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of Americans, MAGA hasn’t quite gotten what they bargained for.
Jo and Brian also discuss the Epstein files, specifically Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s documented lies about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the three million files still withheld from the public by the DOJ, and the blatant lack of accountability and transparency regarding the abusers. Trump ran on releasing the truth. He’s now protecting the people inside it. Brian asks the question that MAGA refuses to answer: what exactly has this president accomplished for the people who voted for him?
With Trump polling at 20% among independents and approval ratings in the low thirties, there is surely a midterm reckoning on the horizon for Republicans. And we’re here for it.
