In 2022, only 5.9% of Americans registered to vote in person. Under the SAVE Act, Donald Trump’s “priority” bill, online voting registration, mail registration, motor voter registration, and voter registration drives would all be illegal. Yet today, NYT reported that Trump himself voted by mail from Mar-a-Lago, which he calls ‘mail in cheating’.
Republicans are going all in on their efforts to pass the SAVE Act, a sweeping bill that would disenfranchise millions of voters, because they know they are going to get clobbered in the upcoming November midterms.
Over the past week, Trump has increasingly threatened that he will refuse to sign any legislation until the SAVE Act is passed, including a funding deal, and said during a speech, “If we get this, [Democrats] probably won't win an election for 50 years.”
