We’ve all seen the footage. ICE has turned Minneapolis into a war zone. There’s no other way to describe it. Gas canisters and pepper balls used against journalists and protesters litter the streets. Businesses are boarded up and have been reduced to hollow shells of their former selves. Smoke billows into the air. Armored tactical vehicles and brigades of soldiers populate grocery store parking lots.
On today’s episode of The Siren Podcast, join us for an on-the-ground look into the situation in Minneapolis, as explained by Minneapolis resident Aaron Rupar.
The situation is so dire, that community groups have been formed to take care of the most at-risk individuals under attack by ICE. As Aaron tells us, “There have been numerous reports of people getting detained when they take the trash out. So like there’s been kind of neighborhood groups organizing so they can take their neighbors’ trash out or get them groceries. So it’s really upended, you know, normal life here. And I’m sure it’s going to have some major economic repercussions, not to mention, you know, the humanitarian toll and just what this is doing psychologically.”
This is an incredibly important episode that you won’t want to miss. All this and more, right here on The Siren Network.
