It’s easy for things to feel completely hopeless and dire right now in 2026 America, as Trump and his MAGA goons carry out one authoritarian action after another. But good things are still happening across the nation- even under this regime- and we need to shine a light on them.
Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger of Virginia just signed a massive package of bills that actually benefit regular Americans, instead of the billionaires and corporations that Trump and Republican have been serving for his entire second term. These bills will stop predatory middlemen from hiking up drug costs, increase the housing supply while making it more affordable, eliminate junk fees on health insurance, crack down on data centers so consumers don’t have to cover their costs, and create a free tax filing program so you never have to hand TurboTax $50 just to pay the government what you already owe them.
And possibly the most significant legislation just passed by Democrats are paid sick and medical leave for Americans, something Republicans blocked for years. Now Democrats have power in Virginia and they’re using it. Elections have consequences (and sometimes good ones)!
