Yes, you read that title correctly. According to Reuters, Republican Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer stated some members would be open to Trump pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell in order to secure her cooperation in the Epstein investigation.
Now let’s make something very clear. Maxwell would not be “cooperating” to help Epstein’s victims see justice and accountability, since she was part of the reason the files need to be released in the first place. Maxwell would be “cooperating” to help Trump and his ring of pedophile protectors continue to cover up the Epstein files and protect their friends.
And of course, in October, Trump himself said he would “take a look at” pardoning Maxwell and that he would speak to the DOJ about her case. Truly, nothing could be more suspicious.
In a statement, Democratic Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee Robert Garcia responded to this news and said: “Absolutely NOT. Oversight Democrats are united in opposing a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell. It’s outrageous that any Republicans on our committee would consider this. She is an abuser and known liar.” This is the only sane answer to the question of a potential pardon for a convicted sexual abuser. Unfortunately, it’s par for the course for the Republican Party.
