Senator Andy Kim on His Father's Alzheimer's Diagnosis, Tackling Affordability, & More

Jo sits down with New Jersey Senator Andy Kim on this episode of The Siren Podcast!

On this episode, Jo is joined by New Jersey Senator Andy Kim for an important and emotional discussion about Senator Kim’s father’s recent Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

At a time when millions of Americans are facing astronomical increases in the price of healthcare, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress have cancelled votes yet again, this time to avoid a vote on the extended ACA subsidies, all but ensuring a skyrocketing rise in healthcare premiums for the same people who voted them into office.

In other words, this holiday season, Donald Trump and Republicans are giving Americans the gift of a paying a lot more for healthcare. The “Golden Age” of America under the “Affordability” president apparently includes having to decide between buying groceries or going to the doctor’s office.

Senator Kim himself isn’t immune from the struggle. As he discusses throughout the episode, the money that he was planning on saving for his children’s college fund is now being spent on his father’s Alzheimer’s treatment, due to the huge cost of treatment in America.

Nobody wants this, not even Trump’s own supporters. A better way exists, and it means getting Republicans out of office.

Jo and Senator Kim also discuss the alarming Federal Communications Commission (FCC) oversight hearing that occurred yesterday. After Brendan Carr, head of the FCC, stated that he didn’t believe the FCC was an independent agency (contrary to his statement just one year ago), Senator Kim pressed him with a follow up question:

“I’m just trying to get a sense from you: If you don’t think that the FCC is independent, then is President Trump your boss?”

To which Carr responded with: “President Trump has designated me as chair of the FCC.” [Watch the full back and forth here, it’s truly staggering.]

Jo and Senator Kim get into all the details on this heartfelt and inspiring episode. All this and more here, right here on The Siren Network.
