"We Are Going To Win": Heather Cox Richardson On Finding Hope, Democracy, & More!

Heather Cox Richardson joins Jo Carducci on this episode of the Sane(ish) podcast

One of the strongest voices leading the charge against Trump’s fascism is Heather Cox Richardson. Her daily posts from Letters from an American allow us to view the regime’s authoritarian actions through a historical lens, drawing comparisons to prior moments in American history.

That’s why on this episode, we are beyond thrilled to have Heather sit down with Jo Carducci to discuss a wide range of topics, including last night, where the Indiana Senate (notably led by Republicans) flat out rejected the Trump regime’s constant pressuring to redraw the Indiana Congressional map, in an attempt to silence the voices of Indiana Democrats by rigging the maps against them. The maps are already heavily gerrymandered, with Democrats holding 2 of the 9 Congressional seats available.

The vote is the latest rebuke of Donald Trump, who in November led the Republican party to lose every major election in the country, after a simply disastrous first year of his second term.

The pair also discusses the looming threat of the 2026 midterms for Republicans. At this point, even Republicans themselves believe they are going to lose in a spectacular fashion, with Puck News reporting that over 20 House Republicans are preparing to announce retirements in the coming weeks. This is in addition to the unearthed audio from the RNC Chair that leaked this morning, where he admitted, “We [Republicans] are facing almost certain defeat.”

As Heather describes, an electoral loss for Republicans in 2026 would mean that certain members of Trump’s administration would be subject to impeachment, and substantial investigations into their actions, as well as legal ramifications. Republicans wouldn’t just be out of power, they would be in real trouble by losing.

Make sure to tune in for this incredibly informative, hope-filled episode. All this and more, right here on The Siren Network.
