“He just makes shit up as he goes,” was what Rep. Jimmy Gomez told us when the subject of Pete Hegseth came up.
Rep. Gomez sits on the House Intelligence Committee, giving him a front row seat to Trump’s Iran War, and a plethora of expertise on the subject. Trump, who made the unilateral decision to wage a war without congressional authorization, has not only plunged the Middle East into a new era of chaos and danger, but has steadily worsened the already severe affordability crisis here at home.
Oil and gas prices have soared since Trump began the war, something Rep. Gomez tells us his constituents are paying attention to. With affordability consistently ranking as the number one cause of concern for Americans in 2026, one would think that the Trump, who rode to power on creating the “golden age” of America, would care just a bit more about the negative impact this is having on American families and new parents.
Instead, Trump has dedicated his second term to enriching himself and his family to the tune of billions, selling presidential pardons, and passing massive tax cuts designed to benefit his billionaire donors and friends. When asked about affordability, Trump says it’s a “Democrat hoax.”
These factors combined, along with Rep. Gomez’s role as a new father, are what led him to announce the National Summit on the Caregiving Crisis, an event meant to shine a spotlight on the state of caregiving within the United States.
Rep. Gomez, who founded and chairs the Congressional Dads Caucus, went viral in 2023 after bringing his son Hodge to the House floor during a record-breaking speaker vote. Rep. Gomez says it highlighted a double standard, in which fathers are oftentimes praised for bringing their children to work, while mothers are criticized.
The Dads Caucus strongly advocates for a national paid leave program, affordable and accessible child care, and expansion of the Child Tax Credit. The summit will take place tomorrow, March 17th.
Rep. Gomez joins The Siren to discuss how Trump’s Iran War is affecting the affordability crisis here in the U.S., and much more. This is an episode you definitely won’t want to miss, right here on The Siren Network.
